The Whitest Bathroom
Sometimes, I get myself into little adrenaline adventures. I think that's actually just what happens to anyone doing a project with a deadline (right??). This winter I have been daydreaming about painting our bathroom and hallway real white after I saw this picture.
I told Zach casually on the way to meet his plan, that I was going to do it! He was like "Okayyyyyy?? That's a lot of time and effort on a whim?". But that's what I do with projects. I usually shoot way beyond what is practical and then rush at the end.
Anyway. I got so pumped! I was like OKAY I have 5 hours until I have to be anywhere. I will grab the white paint can left over from our apartment revamp last spring and just do the first coat without stopping to breathe!
Here's what we got going on. Greys on creams. And a tiny bathroom. Not bad by any means, but I mean....
So first. I realize I don't have a roller nor do I have a stir stick. So I visited the cutest hardware store in the next hood over.
Boom. Got it. I clean out the entire bathroom, wipe down and clean Every. Nook. And. Crany. Theres a whole lotta cranies in that little room.
I go to stir the paint in my handy storage room. Which I'm proudly walking out there, thinking "this room is so great! I won't spill a bunch of paint on the bathroom floor or wood floors in the hallway." Sooooo happy with the way everything is going...
And then. I found out that paint freezes???? THATS WHY PEOPLE KEEP IT IN THEIR BASEMENTS!!!!? Got it.
So I'm like way bummed.
Frozen weird paint.
Lose all motivation.
Sit on couch and Pinterest beautiful white and black bathrooms until I have to leave.
I was the first customer at the paint store the next morning and picked up a fresh can.
And so I picked up my motivation and got to rolling after work the next day.
I spent much introverted alone time with a few twangy country tunes for the next couple of evenings.
And it was like a small sweat house. It was so hot and small and the fluorescents start to make you see spots in dark dark corners...
I got it done! Cleaned up the floor (ahem. I learned through experience that I, Emily, should always always just put down a drop cloth). I spent way more time scrapping up paint smudges and drips than the pre work would have taken.
But then I was done! And I got to move everything back in!
It feels really good to work on your dwelling. And it's just a rental, not our dream bathroom. Someday, Zach and I will have the satisfaction of putting our energy and money into our house. But for now, we have little tiny projects to keep us busy and inspired.
