Trout Streams
Memorial Day weekend kicked off with a trip to the Driftless Region in northeast Iowa to fly fish in the streams!
I packed a little lunch the night before.
Zach packed the car.
The next morning we sprung out of bed and hopped in the car.
We got into the park, and it was BEAUTIFUL. We had skimmed down our two day camping and fishing plans due to dense thunderstorms proposed for the weekend.
We packed our little rain jackets in our packs and only had to pull them out once when it sprinkled for a bit.
And it was a dream come true! I have been waiting to stand in the stream and see the trout in the clear clear water and know what kind of flies they are reacting to and not reacting to and then watch them pop up and snag my fly and all of the things out of my day dreams.
And then we fished some deeper holes of fish. And it was awesome! We pulled out a few mid sized trout and wound our way up and down the stream.
Shoutout to my new gear. It was actually a really great sensation to be standing waist deep in moving water and be entirely warm and dry.
Sometimes things get tense, and your husband is really great and is more concerned about the fishs' well being so he accidentally clamps his finger trying to get him back in the water ASAP.
And then mid afternoon, we took off our waders and did some sploring
Weird old abandoned fish hatcheries.
I went into my first cave!!!
And then it started raining like WILD. So I cuddled up, drank my kombucha, and drove me and sleepy Zach home.
I hope everyone got out and adventured this weekend! It is so good for you.
