Sharing experiences both far away and right at home

Fruits and Veggies

Fruits and Veggies

Let me know if this is getting redundant, but I get really really excited about gardens, fresh produce, and the satisfaction of the result (or the learning as you go).

Saturday, I spent the day in Ames with one of my long time best friends!!

Outside of Ames, I came upon this fruit stand. I had completely forgotten about it! I stopped here once as a new college go-er and it hasn't changed since.

Actually, the owner said it started in 1942--and I don't think tooooo much has changed since then :)

Everything is bright and organized and I wanted to buy IT ALL.

Everything is from the Midwest! I picked up some beef sticks and bacon for Zachary.

Some Missouri peaches!! And some Iowa honey and vanilla extract.

It is my dream to own something like this. I have a lot of daydreams. But to have a huge garden/greenhouse and or flower farm and just sell them for simple prices?! I am just so drawn to the beauty of the process.

When I got home from an amazing day, a post card showed up!! As you all know, I love love love getting personal mail in my little gold mail slot!

Zach sent it to me from San Antonio last week. From Hotel Emma-this AMAZING old industrial hotel that I would like to design my house after :)

As I said, it's a far off day dream to have a massive garden. Last year I did herbs, this year is my first round with tomato plants. It's been a little ride! Between storms, terrible soil, neighbors bulldozing, and lack of knowledge and experience, I have had to make a lot of change on the fly.

I found both of them face down in the dirt when I got home from peaches and bacon. They were HUGE and towering with a lot of vines. And the little gusts of wind knocked em right over! The tomatoes were pulling them down. SOOOO I got some stakes. I researched and found out that you are supposed to do those FIRST and gently tie the stems to it...whooops!

Any way, I snipped and snipped! and they are now fresher and cleaner than ever!

But I lost some good ones along the way. So fragile.

I love this time of year and the produce it brings! We are getting a produce share soon that shall supply us with many squash and potatoes!!

HAPPY FRIDAY! Go to a market before it's too cold!
